Hiking in the Philippines' Masungi Georeserve

What a spectacular way to see the southern Sierra Madre Mountain Range, roughly two hours from Manila. All it takes is a five hour hike through a beautiful trail to loop through the park’s limestone peaks and valleys. It’s crazy to realize that just over 20 years ago, this entire rainforest was completely deforested.

My advice: don’t think twice about visiting!

Hiking the Masungi Georeserve Discovery Trail in Baras, Rizal. Truly a magical place.

So happy my oldest, bestest pal didn’t need much convincing it would still be a great day, through the rainy weather!

Just look at this landscape. Otherworldly.

The view from Nanay (mother) peak.

I first learned about the Masungi Georeserve through Instagram videos of people waving from the “duyan” - sort of like this giant, woven swing - filmed from a drone. Its greenery, mountains and sunshine looked so incredible that I knew I had to visit and make it a day trip during a stop in Manila.

We booked our Masungi Georeserve excursion with Tanlines Philippines (via Klook, a good way to book from outside the country) and recommend it highly. With breakfast, roundtrip transportation, park fees and a light snack included, it’s a pretty incredible deal.

Definitely one of my favourite hikes! Only second to Mt. Apo 😊
